A U-Haul truck traveling the wrong way on a one-way street jumped the curb Wednesday and rammed into a recently opened brew pub in Schmidt’s Commons in Northern Liberties, police said.

The 41-year-old man driving the truck was taken into custody to face DUI charges after attempting to run off, police said. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital after complaining of leg pain. No other injuries were reported.

The crash occurred just before 1 p.m., when the truck was heading north on the southbound-only 1000 block of North Second Street, police said. The truck swerved onto the sidewalk and into the front of the Urban Village Brewing Co., shattering its large windows before coming to a halt.

The driver’s name was not immediately released.

At least two parked car were hit and damaged by the truck before it crashed into the restaurant.

Police said Department of Licenses and Inspections officials were called to the scene.

Dave Goldman, an owner of the restaurant, said he hoped to reopen in time for dinner Wednesday.

The brewpub opened at the beginning of June.
