An Erie homicide defendant who was 17 when he was charged as an adult in a fatal August shooting has waived his right to seek transfer into juvenile court.

Jaquel S. Tirado, 18, agreed to waive his right on advice from his court-appointed lawyer, Nathaniel Strasser, and after consulting with his family, he said in court Wednesday.

Strasser had not filed a motion to decertify, or to transfer Tirado to juvenile court, according to court records.

Tirado said he wished to proceed to his trial, which is scheduled to begin with jury selection July 31 in the courtroom of Erie County Judge Stephanie Domitrovich.

Tirado is accused of fatally shooting 26-year-old Steven Bishop on Aug. 18. Erie police charged that Bishop was shot in the 2000 block of Cottage Avenue before running around the corner and trying to enter a house in the 500 block of East 21st Street near Wallace Street. Officers found his body in a doorway.
