Teen Gets Prison Time for Killing His Grandmother

A Harborcreek teenager, charged in one of the area’s more shocking murder cases, will spend up to 20 years in prison for killing his grandmother.

Thursday morning, a judge sentenced Hunter Reeser, 16, to 10-20 years in prison for third degree murder.

Reeser was just 14 when he shot and killed his 60-year-old grandmother, Sandra Orton, back in August of 2016.

Police say Reeser admitted to the fatal shooting in the driveway of the family’s Harborcreek home, telling officers he didn’t want to go to a scheduled meeting at school.

The defense tried unsuccessfully to have the case moved to the more lenient juvenile court system, they told the judge about what they say is Reeser’s long history of mental health issues, dating back to when he was a young child.

Reeser eventually pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, to a charge of third-degree murder.

The judge ruled Reeser will not serve his sentence in a traditional state prison, but SCI Pine Grove, an institution which specializes in young adult offenders, located in Indiana, Pa.

I hired Eric for someone who was facing serious felony charges. He is a fairly young man with a young child who he absolutely adores.
