Erie police have released a surveillance video photo in an effort to identify a black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt who made threats, struck one teller and left an item behind after robbing a Northwest Bank branch in west Erie on Thursday morning.

The suspect, who appeared to be in his 30s, had a goatee and was not wearing a mask, stole an undetermined amount of cash in the robbery of the Northwest Bank branch at 3407 Liberty St. shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday. The man walked into the bank and passed a note that demanded money and contained a threat of harm, according to investigators. One teller was struck by the suspect during the incident, Erie police Deputy Chief Mike Nolan said.

An observant bank employee picked up on the robbery and was able to call 911 while the suspect was still inside the branch, Nolan said.
