Death of Erie woman in pedestrian crash ruled accidental

An Erie woman struck by a car following a confrontation with another woman in an eastside neighborhood early Friday morning died of blunt-force trauma to the head, Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said following an autopsy on Monday morning.

Cook ruled the death of 38-year-old city resident Michelle Muir as accidental. The woman accused of hitting Muir with her car, 24-year-old Erie resident Rebecca A. Frick, was charged with criminal homicide and other offenses in the incident.

Erie police charge that Frick intentionally struck Muir with the Ford Fusion Frick was driving at the intersection of East Sixth and Wallace streets shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday. Muir was taken to UPMC Hamot, where she was pronounced dead on Saturday at 8:52 a.m.

The accident happened after Frick and Muir got into an argument at the Shell station at East Sixth and Parade streets, and the argument continued after Muir and her longtime boyfriend walked away from the gas station with their 9-month-old pit bull. Investigators said the pit bull was also struck by Frick’s car, and it suffered a minor injury.
