Attorney John Knox
Attorney Knox is a 1990 graduate of the University of Michigan, where he twice received the prestigious Hopwood Award for Writing. He is a 1995 graduate of the Penn State Dickinson Law School, where he served as the Articles Editor for the Dickinson Journal of Environmental Law & Policy and as a member of the Trial Moot Court Board.
As a Pennsylvania licensed attorney, Attorney Knox has worked tirelessly as a civil litigator and transactional attorney for over two decades. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies in matters involving personal injury claims, commercial contracts, and employment disputes.
As a transactional attorney, he has drafted and negotiated countless commercial leases, purchasing agreements, contractor agreements and executive employment agreements. Attorney Knox has conducted hundreds of commercial and residential real estate closings representing purchasers, sellers and financial institutions. He has represented numerous state and local authorities in the area of public finance. Most notably, he was a member of a three-attorney team that served as lead counsel for the Commonwealth in the largest bond transaction in Pennsylvania history: the $3.2 billion refunding of the PA Department of Labor & Industry’s UC obligation to the federal government.
For the past several years, a large portion of Attorney Knox’s practice has focused on elder law, estate planning and estate administration. He has represented several estates with assets in the millions of dollars and counsels clients on powers of attorney, including health care powers of attorney, and guardianships. He is a 2019 graduate of the Elder Law College and focuses much of his elder law practice on Medicaid planning and asset protection to give his clients a means by which to pay for long-term care without compromising their assets.
Attorney Knox has actively supported the community of Northwest Pennsylvania by serving as President of the Board of Directors of the Erie Philharmonic, Inc.; Chairman of the Board of Community Health Net, Inc.; a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Planning Committee; Chairman of the Erie County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Committee; Vice-President of the School Advisory Board of Our Lady of Peace School; and as a Board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Erie.
