ACLU Files Lawsuit Against North Carolina Anti-LGBT Law

The American Civil Liberties Union on Monday filed a federal lawsuit challenging a controversial North Carolina law that blocks cities and counties from passing protections against LGBT discrimination.

The measure, signed into law last week by North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R), banned employers and businesses from discriminating against their employees or customers based on race, color, country of origin, religion, age or “biological sex.” But the law offers no protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, and further prevents local governments from passing protections that goes beyond the statewide standard.

I was charged with theft by extortion, a 3rd degree felony which carries a possible sentence of 7 years in prison and 15,000 in fines. Against my better judgement, I took the advice of Stephen and pled guilty for a reduced sentence. I hired Eric for someone who was facing serious felony charges. He is a fairly young man with a young child who he absolutely adores. He had made mistakes and I didn't feel he needed to go to jail and be separated from that child.
