A Guys Mills man is being held at the Crawford County Jail on $500,000 bond after a meth lab and stolen guns were found in his home Thursday.

State Police from Troop E’s vice unit went to Charles Butters home at 7509 Carpenter Road in Guys Mills at 11 a.m. Thursday to serve a search warrant. They were attempting to obtain Butters’ DNA to use in prior case against Butters in which he was charged with possessing guns with obliterated serial numbers and running a meth lab.

Butters tried to flee troopers when he was confronted in his backyard. He was stopped by troopers instead. He said he ran because there was a meth lab in the shed and stolen guns inside his home. He later confessed to the crimes at police barracks.

After obtaining a second search warrant, vice unit members confiscated an AK-47, 40-caliber pistol, .380 pistol, three rifles and an assortment of ammunition. The State Police Clandestine Lab Response Team found numerous drug precursors and drug paraphernalia at the property.

The case will be prosecuted in federal court. It has been referred to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to State Police.
