MEADVILLE — City police and the Crawford County Coroner’s Office are investigating the discovery of a male’s body in French Creek early Thursday afternoon.

Authorities were notified at about 1:25 p.m. Thursday after the body was discovered at the railroad trestle near Hope Street in Vernon Township, Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell said. The body is that of a younger white male, and it appears that the male was not submerged in the creek for long, Schell said.

The body was recovered on the Meadville side of the creek.

Meadville police are working to confirm the male’s identity, Schell said. The male did not have any identification on him, and there were no identifying marks on the body, he said.

Schell said he expects to run toxicology testing on the male as part of the death investigation.
